Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need an eTA to visit Canada?

The Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) is a required document for many foreign nationals flying to Canada. It allows Canadian authorities to pre-screen travelers before boarding.

You will need an eTA if:

  • You are visa-exempt: Citizens of visa-exempt countries (e.g., France, Belgium, Spain) must apply for an eTA when entering Canada by air.
  • You are arriving by plane: The eTA is mandatory for air travel only. It’s not required for entry by land or sea.
  • You are visiting short-term: eTAs are for temporary stays (up to 6 months) for tourism or business purposes.

The eTA costs CAD $7 and can be obtained online, often approved within minutes. To confirm if you need one, contact our Immigration Lawyers in Montreal at Brunel Immigration.
