The Ministère du Travail, de l’Emploi et de la Solidarité sociale recently announced certain relaxations to the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP). Some of them have come into effect in the last few weeks.
Since December 6th, certain D-level occupations have become exempt from job posting requirements and local recruitment efforts, including cashiers, counter attendants, housekeepers and metal worker positions. The full list can be found here.
In other good news, from January 10, 2022 to December 31, 2024, employers in certain economic sectors, such as housing and food services and health care, will be able to hire more foreign workers in low-wage positions for the same workplace, with the cap increasing from 10 to 20% of employees. The full list of sectors eligible for this increase can be found on the EDSC website.
Some C-level positions will also be added to the list of occupations eligible for the simplified process in Quebec, including orderlies, retail salespeople, material handlers and assemblers. However, this list is not yet in effect and requires the approval of the federal government.
