The Canadian government has announced several changes to travel restrictions and public health measures for travelers. Here is a quick review of the main changes in recent weeks:
- Foreign nationals whose application for permanent residence has been approved : As of June 21, 2021, any foreign national with a valid Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR) can travel to Canada.
- Easing of public health measures for fully vaccinated travelers : As of July 5, 2021, persons authorized to travel to Canada who are fully vaccinated and meet all conditions are exempt from the 3-day hotel stay, 14-day quarantine, and 8th day screening test.
- Discretionary travel for citizens and permanent residents of the United States : Effective August 9, 2021, fully vaccinated citizens and permanent residents of the United States, currently living in that country, will be able to enter Canada for discretionary (non-essential) travel.
- Discretionary travel for nationals of other countries : On September 7, 2021, health conditions permitting, Canada intends to open its borders to discretionary travelers, regardless of the country from which they are arriving, if they have been fully vaccinated and meet certain entry requirements.
