Following a notice dated April 10, we learned that visitor visa applications deemed to be non-essential, as well as electronic travel authorization (ETA) applications, were no longer processed until further notice. By suspending the processing of these two types of applications, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) wishes to focus its resources on essential services.
This news came as no surprise, given that visitors can no longer travel to Canada with a few exemptions for almost a month now.
However, this measure did not stop there! This morning, an IRCC statement was published in an article by Radio-Canada. IRCC specified that work permit applications submitted from outside Canada are no longer all processed. IRCC indicated that only requests “that focus specifically on essential services”, particularly on “medical and food supply chains” are currently being processed.
This finally confirms what we suspected. Thus, we believe that the processing times will be more and more important in the upcoming weeks. We therefore invite you to prepare your work permit application in advance if you have temporary immigration plans set for a certain date.
